Notes of Award Land Working party site meeting 7th of June 2011

Present John Westlake. G. Luckett, Mandy Brading Councillors and Joe Cornish and A Hembery

Considerations  of the working party

1)    John Westlake should be Co-ordinator as only candidate

2)    Forge retaining wall  a) repair side wall or b) monitor c) cut back ivy and bramble growing on the  side walls

3)    A couple of wooden steps are broken and could be replaced by the pay back team if they do the steps on Westlake rocky path.

4)    We viewed the hollies and consider some of them could be transplanted

In the Autumn to make the boundary clearer on the Eastern side

or transplant  if suitable place found or leave where they are to make a holly thicket as one of the few plants that survive under the Holly Oak ( Quercus Ilex)

5)    We viewed the area of largely Holly Oaks and noted the bare ground underneath. Mandy Brading pointed out 2 or 3 fairly young holly oaks on the other side of Mike’s path and suggested these could be cut down in the Autumn as already agreed in the last Parish Council to prevent bare ground forming there which could lead to land slip onto the bridleway.

6)    Should  we ask pay back team to keep a wide area open or allow new trees to grow and keep narrow path open

7)    Suggestion to monitor bent gate at end of Mike’s path.

8)    Most of the group went down Rocky path and noted the wall there forming our boundary. Is this an ancient Parish Boundary ? Could this be confirmed.

9)    We walked the Uplands path and observed the badger holes that have been filled without authorisation.
