It was agreed that the following wording was put on the Interpretation Panel:
In 1799 an Act of Parliament awarded land, with a quarry, to the Ecclesiastical Parish of Winscombe. This provided stone to build and repair the public roads and potholes in Winscombe and Sandford.
This area, now covering approximately 10 acres, has many footpaths and a viewing point on Mike’s Path.
The woodlands have recolonized the spoil from past mining and quarrying.
They contain many species including spindle and wayfaring trees.
The area provides a natural habitat for wild flowers, birds and animals.
(Map to include forge, former pottery site, POW toilet, railway carriage; all path names, Bridleway; and Spindle and Wayfaring trees)
A site inspection is to be held on Friday 24th February 2006 at 1.30pm.
Quotation from Stan Ellis accepted to clear the fallen trees to enable an inspection to be carried out.
A.O.B. Mrs A Brading suggested that Bristol Zoo be contacted to see if they would like some Evergreen Oak (Ilex) leaves to feed the animals.
